Farm Operations and Assets Lead

Job description

Farm Operations and Assets Lead

Job Description | June 2026

Role Summary

YUZU is hiring a hands-on Farm Operations and Assets Lead to own the day-to-day discipline, reliability, and execution of key farm systems.

This is a site-based role for someone who can combine maintenance leadership, practical construction delivery, health and safety discipline, inventory control, irrigation oversight, quality control, and hands-on execution when needed.

The role is broad, but the expectation is clear: this person must build workable systems, maintain standards, direct people well, follow through consistently, and step in personally where needed to keep the farm operating properly.

Core Role Focus

The role owns six operating verticals:

Maintenance and Assets

Projects and Construction

Health, Safety, and Compliance

Inventory and Agricultural Input Control

Quality Control

Irrigation Operations

This role is expected to own the systems, standards, planning, follow-up, and execution discipline across these areas while remaining practical and hands-on.

What You'll Own

Farm Assets and Equipment

Farm equipment, machinery, utilities, and support infrastructure.

Tractors, implements, pumps, generators, workshop equipment, farm vehicles, and small petrol or diesel equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, and sprayers.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Worker accommodation, bathrooms, offices, sheds, storage areas, fencing, gates, roads, drainage, and general site infrastructure.

Projects and Construction

A recurring stream of practical farm works, including repairs, upgrades, fit-outs, new rooms, sheds, bathroom blocks, shaded parking, utility works, and similar small-to-medium internal or outsourced construction projects.

Operational Standards

Safety, hygiene, cleanliness, irrigation execution, inventory control, and produce quality standards across the farm.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Asset Management

Run preventive maintenance programs for farm equipment, facilities, utilities, irrigation hardware, and support infrastructure.

Carry out repair work personally where appropriate.

Track service intervals, faults, recurring issues, asset condition, spare-parts requirements, and priority repairs.

Respond quickly to breakdowns and ensure issues are fully resolved.

Maintain workshop readiness, tools, records, hygiene, and cleanliness standards, including practical HACCP-style upkeep where relevant.

Projects and Construction

Lead small-to-medium internal construction, repair, renovation, and improvement works.

Supervise outsourced works from scope definition through execution and completion.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

Maintain strong day-to-day health and safety discipline across farm operations, workshop activities, maintenance work, irrigation work, and construction tasks.

Promote safe working practices and adherence to operational standards.

Inventory and Agricultural Inputs

Maintain organized control of spare parts, tools, consumables, and agricultural inputs.

Manage inventory including seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, irrigation consumables, and packaging materials.

Quality Control

Maintain practical quality-control discipline so produce leaving the farm meets expected grading and customer standards.

Irrigation Operations

Own day-to-day irrigation operations, including schedules, zone operation, valves, filters, leak detection, routine inspections, troubleshooting, and follow-up.

Planning and Coordination

Build workable schedules, task lists, records, and follow-up systems.

Coordinate labor, materials, tools, vendors, service providers, and contractors to ensure work is organized and efficient.

Candidate Profile

Education and Background

Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering is preferred.

Civil engineering exposure or project experience is valuable.

Diploma, degree, or equivalent hands-on technical training is acceptable.

Strong practical experience may substitute for formal academic qualifications.

Experience

Practical experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical, utility, facilities, irrigation, or farm-operational assets.

Experience supervising labor, directing hands-on work, and managing both internal teams and external contractors.

Strong planning and organizational ability across scheduling, materials, execution, standards, and follow-through.

Technical Skills

Familiarity with farm equipment, pumps, engines, workshop practices, irrigation systems, or similar mechanical systems.

Experience with inventory systems, agricultural inputs, product handling, grading, or dispatch quality control is a strong advantage.

The Ability to read and mark up CAD drawings and maintain organized technical documentation is a strong advantage.

Personal Attributes

Strong operational discipline around safety, cleanliness, stock control, and site standards.

Practical problem-solver who takes ownership and follows through.

Comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on execution.

Who This Role Suits

This role suits someone who enjoys broad operational ownership in a practical farm environment and can combine hands-on execution with strong standards, systems, and follow-through.

The right candidate will not act as a narrow office coordinator or wait for others to solve basic operating problems. They will be expected to step in, organize the work, direct the people involved, maintain standards, and personally help execute where needed.
